James Willis Brooks, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at the age of 97.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Rosella Brooks; his parents, the late Harrison and Stella Brooks; his siblings, the late Lawrence Brooks, the late Mildred Brooks, the late Eunice Frye, and the late Harvey Brooks.
He was the devoted father of Gary (Cynthia) Brooks, Leanna (Ronnie) Higgins, and Roger Brooks; loving grandfather of Heather Brooks, Ryan Brooks, Sarah (David) Caldwell, Jamie Higgins, Ben (Jenise) Higgins, Zack (Jess) Brooks and Philip Brooks; treasured great-grandfather of Jackson Brooks, Collin Brooks, Max Brooks, Belle Brooks, Alex Brooks, Ella Rose Caldwell, Henry Caldwell, Braeden Higgins, Hannah Higgins, Charlie Brooks and Dexter Brooks; dear brother of, Mary Massey, Billie Sprouse; James is also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless treasured friends.
James was a proud veteran and a lifelong hard worker who believed in the value of perseverance, family, and a simple life. From a young age, he was never afraid of hard work. At just 10 years old, James drove a logging boat for his father’s company—a remarkable responsibility that reflected the strength and determination he carried throughout his life.
Growing up during the Great Depression, James and his family lived much like pioneers, relying on what they could catch, hunt, and grow. Those early experiences shaped his appreciation for the outdoors and the simple things in life.
James especially loved fishing along the Missouri River in St. Charles. He also enjoyed taking long walks and riding his bike, always finding joy in being outdoors and staying active.
James was a proud veteran, a hardworking man, and someone who lived life with quiet strength and determination. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
