Harold L. Shellberg, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of his family.
Harold was born on October 14, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, to Harold and Betty Shellberg. He grew up in Chicago with his brother, Richard, and carried the values of that upbringing—hard work, loyalty, and quiet determination—throughout his life. Through a co-worker he met Elaine and were married a year later. Together they built a beautiful life and welcomed two daughters, Karen and Carolyn, who remained the pride of his heart.
In 1976 Harold moved his family from Downers Grove, Illinois, to St. Louis, Missouri, where he took a Job with Boise Cascade. Harold was a man who showed his love through action—with the hours he worked, the projects he tackled, the golf games he cherished, and the way he always made time for the people who mattered most.
A Mechanical Engineer by trade, Harold spent his career with Continental Can, Boise-Cascade Composite Can Division, Sonoco Products, and later Graham Engineering, where he retired in 1997. After retirement, Harold and Elaine settled in Phoenix Az, where he found joy in sunny days on the golf course and in the friendship’s he formed with neighbors who quickly became like family.
Harold’s greatest passion was the game of golf. He was lucky to be able to play all across the country with family, friends, coworkers and business associates.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Shellberg; his daughters, Karen (Tony) Piche and Carolyn (Terry) Schertzer; his grandchildren, Beth (Richard) Fitchew, Cody Everett, Jennie (Kevin) Cheaten, Chris (Brooke) Schertzer, and Patrick Schertzer; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler Cotto, Samantha Fitchew, Nathan Fitchew, Eben Everett, Oliver Everett, and Miles Schertzer. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Connie) Shellberg, with whom he shared a lifelong bond and the love of the game of golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Shellberg.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Missouri, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 4:00 p.m. Harold will be cremated and interred at St. Philippine Cemetery.
