Harold "Bud" Schaeffer

July 15, 1933 — May 8, 2024

St. Charles, Missouri

Harold “Bud” Schaeffer was born in Wentzville Missouri on July 15, 1933, and grew up in the Black Walnut and Portage Des Sioux area with seven siblings on farms which led to his talents with carpentry, land topography, and equipment. Bud was a veteran of the Korean War, a well-respected businessman, and the co-developer of the St. Charles County communities of Bogey Hills Estates, Bogey Village, Beaver Creek, and WindCastle custom home subdivisions.

A pay attention to details person, he was known for his owner care, quality work and tenacious passion for good homes for families. Bud loved work, play and making life better for all folks especially for the physically challenged.

Bud was instrumental in assisting with the creation of the following groups:

  • Therapeutic Horseback riding, now known as Tree House (St. Charles County).
  • MOD: Missouri Orthopedically Disabled Building, an all accessible eight apartment complex (St. Louis County).
  • The Schaeffer Foundation (St. Charles County).
  • ShowMe Aquatics & Fitness (St. Charles County).

Everybody “loved Bud”. He would brighten the room with great sincere energy, genuine care, humor, and solid business direction. He could see what folks needed before they did.

Bud is survived by his beautiful wife and partner of 71 years of marriage, Joan Boschert Schaeffer, two daughters, Susan Schaeffer and Nancy Schaeffer, one son, James Schaeffer, three brothers, business partner and brother, Walter Schaeffer, Norbert Schaeffer, and David Schaeffer and one sister, Mary Ann (Schaeffer) BazDresch. One brother, Dennis Schaeffer and two sisters, Gerry (Schaeffer) Schoene and Martha (Schaeffer) Baranovic preceded him in death.

Bud’s favorite song was “On Top of Old Smokie”. He is remembered for his respect and delight in the medical communities of SSM and BJC guiding him and his care for the sweet continuation of life through prostate cancer, lymphoma, bone cancer, bladder cancer, Lymphedema over 15 years and the need for continued oxygen from a procedural consequence.
