Saint Charles, Missouri

Emblem

Glennon Frank "Glenn" Winter, loving husband and father peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on December 1, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Senior Living in St. Charles, Missouri.

Glenn was a very devout Roman Catholic, family man, and countryman. After service as an altar boy when masses were still in Latin, he attended DeAndreis Catholic High School until 1950. Glenn then served his country in the US Navy from February 1952 to December 1955. He served in China and Korea. His final rank at honorable discharge was Electrician's Mate Petty Officer First Class. The most significant duty assignment he experienced was aboard the USS Chikaskia. He became a founding and life member of Florissant, Missouri VFW Post 4105. He then attended the University of Missouri Rolla from 1956-1959 where he became a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He left the legacy of Sigma Phi Epsilon to his son Greg, along with grandsons Gregory Jr. and Alexander. From 1962 to 1988 he worked for McDonnell Aircraft as a technical writer/engineer/logistician, most notably for the F-15. In 1963, He married the love of his life, Mardel "Mardy" and within 2 1/2 years had 2 sons and a daughter. After raising their three children, he retired from McDonnell in 1988. He then reentered the workforce by joining the US Army Aviation System Command (AVSCOM) as a civilian where he would continue his profession working on documentation for Huey and Sikorsky helicopters until his full retirement in 1993. As with many from the Silent Generation, Glenn and Mardy enjoyed going out to parish events, family get-togethers, rotating bridge nights with their group and sharing an evening cocktail. His favorite was a Manhattan and Mardy's a Gin Martini. In 2000, at the age of 69 after a few bypasses, Glenn's big heart needed a pacemaker. His pacemaker needed battery replacement every 10 years. His fulfilling life ended on his third set! Glenn liked woodworking and researching the Winter Family Tree and its many branches.

He was born October 18, 1931, to Frank S. Winter and Leona A. (Seckel) . Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Mardel E. Winter (nee Cowell), sister Vivian E. Kalz, son Donald G. Winter and grandson Jacob R. Winter. He loved his current family on this earth, son Gregory (Suzanne) Winter, daughter Cheryl (Burt) Frager, daughter in-law Laura (Don) Winter, grandchildren Alexander, Matthew(Samantha), Gregory, Josephine Winter and Aiden Green, and great granddaughter Skyler.
