Glaston J. “Sonny” Ford Jr., of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late Betty E. Ford; cherished son of the late Katherine and Glaston Ford; devoted father of Glaston "Grady" G. (Sherry) Ford, Michael E. (Jody) Ford, and the late Stacey L. Jung; loving grandfather of Katie (Adam) DeMoss, Nicole (Elijah) Fender, Justin Ford, and Malerie (Sanjin "Sonny") Slavuljica; treasured great grandfather of 5; dear brother of Ernest "Bubba" (Elizabeth) Ford; uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Sonny's interest in the military started when he joined the Mississippi Army National Guard at Meridian, Mississippi in late 1955. While in the Guard, Sonny developed a desire to become a pilot — to fly helicopters. He earned his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant by completing the Infantry Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and obtaining an MBA; then he became an Army Aviator in 1961 after completing flight training at Fort Wolters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama.

In May 1962, Sonny went to the Army Aviation School at Fort Rucker as a Flight Instructor. During his career, he served two one-year tours of duty in Vietnam and a third tour in Korea. Other locations where he served in the States are Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Eustis, Virginia; Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.

Sonny retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1980 and he spent 20 years at Boeing. In his retirement years, Sonny enjoyed working in the yard, harassing his neighbors, boating at the Lake of the Ozarks, and spending time with family. Always working and keeping busy, he loved fishing, traveling, and was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed camping. Sonny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, the family requests memorial trees planted in honor of Sonny and his love of the outdoors.
