E. Tom Jorgenson, of St. Peters, MO, passed away on Thursday, March 26th, at the age of 73. Born August 27, 1952 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of the late Everett and Josephine Jorgenson; father of Tymm (Wanda) Zerr, and Melanie Jorgenson; grandfather of Jasper Zerr; brother of the late Judith (Charles) Forrest, the late Gerald (Kaye) Dillon, the late Daniel Dillon and Debbie (Mike) Montgomery; uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tom was an electrical engineer and proudly built his first home computer himself from a kit. He remained deeply passionate about technology and in the 1980s, founded Software Wizardry, followed by First Capitol Computer, the latter of which ranked # 207 in the 1987 Inc 500 list of fastest growing private companies in America. He later continued his career as a technology consultant for companies such as McDonnell Douglas and Monsanto.
Tom was a lifelong science fiction fan, devouring books and movies. An amateur photographer, he took pride in developing his own photos. As a musician throughout his life, he played trumpet and later learned guitar. As an adult, he also loved to dance and could be found laughing with friends on the dance floor many Saturday nights. He became an avid genealogist, who took great joy in tracing family histories. He also acquired a special love for dogs, especially his two favorite pups, Knarla Dixie and Winnie the Pooch.
He will be remembered for being welcoming and generous, for his sharp mind and love of music, and for his fascination with what the future could hold.
The visitation for Tom will be on Monday, April 6th, at 9:30 am at All Saints’ Church in St. Peters, MO. It will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 am.
