Eva Ruth Young Schrum was born on August 18, 1935 in Arcadia, Missouri. She died October 6, 2026 at the age of 91. Eva was born to John Young and Eva King Young. She was one of five sisters, Hazel (Everett) Persons, Wanda (George) Russell, Wilda (Bill) Blanton and Carol (Edward) Reed. They spent a happy childhood roaming and bicycling around the area of Marble Creek. On March 7, 1958 Ruth married William Schrum, Sr. Their union produced four children and lasted 56 years before Bill's passing. Their children are William Jr. (Rhonda), Mark (Ellen), Greg, and Mary Beth (Ethan). Grandchildren are Ben, Drew, Jeffrey, Matthew, Katherine, Darren and Brett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ruth lived her adult life in O'Fallon, Missouri where she was a member of First Baptist Church there. She worked for many years as the cook for First Baptist Preschool and was very excited when she was able to transport two of her grandsons to preschool each day and keep a watchful eye on them. She had many friends from her time at First Baptist. Ruth was a world-class people watcher. She entertained herself with that pastime all throughout her life and continued till the end with her favorite spot at the nursing home being the front lobby where she could watch the comings and goings of the community. She was an avid reader and tv watcher and had a special love for dogs and especially cats. Pets were a constant in her life and she showed great interest in the pets of her children and grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in Ironton, Missouri. Anyone wishing to honor her memory may make a donation to Five Acres Animal Shelter through their website.
