Eugene R. San Filippo

Eugene Raymond San Filippo of St. Louis, MO fortified with The Sacraments passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Concetta San Filippo. Adoring father and father-in-law to Gina (Jim) O’Connor and Lisa (Joe) Hale. Loving grandfather to Trevor (Natalie) O’Connor and Caitlyn O’Connor as well as proud great-grandfather to Hunter James O’Connor. Cherished son of the late Yolanda and Charles San Filippo. Dear brother of Ronald (Mary Ann) San Filippo and the late Frances (Mariano) Ionadi and Carmine San Filippo. Dear uncle, godfather, cousin and friend to many.

Gene was born on November 15, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Italian immigrants Charles and Yolanda San Filippo. He grew up in a very large extended family and was extremely close to his aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. and very proud to be a first generation American. His love for his country was endless, and he joined the Army in 1949 and served proudly for two years where he also made many friends that he kept in touch with throughout the years.

In 1959, Gene married the love of his life, Concetta San Filippo and their marriage spanned 56 years and became the foundation of his family. He became a traveling jewelry salesman and worked in the jewelry industry for over forty years. The job is what led him to St. Louis in 1962 when he moved with his wife and oldest daughter to settle in the Midwest for the remainder of his life. His youngest daughter was born in St. Louis.

After retiring from the jewelry business, he began his beloved retirement job as a Sales Associate at Shoe Carnival where he worked for over 32 years at four different locations....not retiring until in his early 90's. He was affectionately nicknamed "Geno" and served hundreds of customers, many of them repeat customers.

In March of 2024, he made the decision to move to Friendship Village Sunset Hills in the Independent Living location. He made an enormous amount of friends with the other residents, staff, management, etc. and lived his remaining years having a great amount of fun and making people laugh which made him the happiest. Also, at the Center of his life was his Catholic Faith, he was a very devoted man and was a member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth in Need where Eugene & Connie were faithful volunteers and fundraisers for over 25 years.
