Jan 15, 1939 — Aug 22, 2026

St. Peters, Missouri

Emma Lasettia VanGennip (nee Brands), cherished by many, passed peacefully on August 22, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Born on January 15, 1939 in Leopold, Missouri, Emma was the beloved daughter of William and Lasettia Brands. She was preceded by her parents; her brother Edward Brands; sisters Alma Sipes, Irene Schummard, Martha Peters, and Ethel Brands, and her dear son Robert William.

Throughout her life, Emma emulated love and compassion for others and a dedication to Jesus Christ. She dearly loved her husband, Ralph. Together they shared a journey which began in high school that spanned 72 wonderful years. In that time, they built a loving home, remarkable family, and thriving business.

Emma is treasured and remembered by her surviving family: her devoted husband Ralph; her children Vanessa (John) Tegethoff, Cheryl (William) Barnes, and Keith (Sheila) VanGennip; her grandchildren Andrew (Lauren) Tegethoff, Stephanie (Matthew) Tegethoff Keathley, Hannah (Jacob) Barnes Schott, and Nathan Barnes; her greatgrandchild Benjamin Tegethoff; and her sisters Dorothy Murphy and Marie Collinson.

Her faith and love for Jesus were cornerstones of Emma's life. She lived out her beliefs through acts of kindness and hospitality. Her genuine, warm, compassionate nature uplifted everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Emma's life reflected Christlike, selfless love for every soul she touched.

She spent her time building a better life for those around her. Emma was dedicated to her work with Arco, the family business. When she was not working, she was active in volunteering with Saint Vincent de Paul, Vacation Bible School, and her community. She used her creative talents by styling the hair and nails of the retired sisters of the Covenant in O'Fallon, Missouri, as well as baking and decorating cakes for her loved ones.

During their marriage, Ralph and Emma loved travelling the world together. For many years, Ralph and Emma were snowbirds who traveled south in their RV to Gulf Shores where they made countless memories and friends. They shared fond memories of visiting Europe and the Holy Land of Jerusalem, as well as taking several cruises.

Emma Lasettia VanGennip has left a profound impact on the hearts of those she loved and served. She dedicated her life to Jesus, her family, and her community. Her gentle spirit and unwavering love will be forever held dear and remembered by those who knew her.
