Edna E. Femmer

September 21, 1921 — June 14, 2025

St. Charles

Edna Femmer passed away peacefully in her home on June 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 103 years old.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Gottlib and Anna Ketterer; brothers Adolf (Dorothy) Ketterer and Raymond Ketterer; sisters Frida (Walter) Lingemann and Hilda Ketterer; granddaughter Tina Harkema; great-grandchildren John Reed Harkema and Jacob Harkema; great-great-granddaughter Emma Rose Booth; and son-in-law Daniel Briegel.

She is survived by her children: John (Barbara) Femmer, David (Patty) Femmer, Elizabeth Harshaw, Karen (Dave) Smith, and Barbara Briegel. Edna also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Born in Gerald, Missouri on September 21, 1921, Edna grew up on a farm where she learned the values of hard work and resilience. As a proud Seabee wife, she lived in various places before settling in St. Charles, Missouri in 1948, where she raised her family and lived for most of her long life.

Edna worked in the cafeteria at Powell Terrace School while her children attended, and later as a dedicated waitress at Howard Johnson's for over 30 years. Known for her kind heart and generous spirit, Edna was always ready with a warm meal and welcoming smile.

She was a talented seamstress and quilter, gifting her family with cherished handmade pieces. An avid reader, Edna always had a book nearby. She loved gardening - especially roses - and was rarely without a feline friend by her side. Stray cats never went hungry or cold near her home.

In her later years, Edna found joy in family visits and listening to St. Louis Cardinals games on the radio. She was a remarkable woman whose warmth, generosity, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Charles Humane Society in her memory.
