Earl Fredrick Holtgraewe, born November 21, 1935, in Saint Charles, Missouri, was the beloved son of Fred Holtgraewe and Frieda Echelmeier.
He graduated from high school in 1953, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. Earl went on to attend the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1957.
On September 15, 1956, Earl married his high‑school sweetheart, Audrey Dean Haake. Together they shared 69 years of marriage and raised four children: Brian (Dana) Holtgraewe, Sharon (Dave) Renfroe, David (Penny) Holtgraewe, and Diane (Perry) Fix. Earl was blessed with ten grandchildren – Nicolas (Brittany) Renfroe, Christina (Chad) Skrivan, Austin (Michelle) Holtgraewe, Kyle (Amanda) Holtgraewe, Megan (Jake) Miller, Dustin Hodges, Carmen (Addison) Pickler, Drew Holtgraewe, Samantha (Adam) Knollmeyer, and Kelsey (Zach) O’Brien; six great‑grandchildren – Madelynn, Jameson, Charlie, Azalea, Wade and Hayes, with two more on the way.
Earl served his community through a distinguished career, including roles as Director of Engineering for the City of St. Peters, Missouri, St. Louis Regional Administrator for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and City Engineer of St. Charles, Missouri. He also held leadership positions in community organizations including President of the Church Council at St. John United Church of Christ, the St. Charles Jr. Baseball/Softball Association, St. Peters Rotary Club, Optimist Club, and Parkside Meadows Retirement Community. He was a University of Missouri 50th & Gold Medal Recipient.
A lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ, Earl was confirmed in 1949 with his chosen verse John 8:31–32. He served as Church Council President three times and was baptized in 2022.
Earl loved traveling with Audrey, visiting 49 of the 50 states. He enjoyed time on the family farm, golfing and bowling with friends, and cheering on the Missouri Tigers as a football season ticket holder for over 60 years.
Earl was a devoted servant, husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, son, uncle and friend. His legacy of faith, service, and love will continue through all who were blessed to know him.
Donations may be made in Mr. Holtgraewe's name to St. John UCC-St. Charles or to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
