Smith – Dorthy Grace Smith, age 89, of Macclenny, Florida passed away January 5, 2018 at Macclenny Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 6, 1928 in Curryville, Missouri to the late Herman Myers and Pauline Elliott Myers. Dorthy graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1946 and began working at the local newspaper office. Shortly after she married the love of her life, J.C. Smith. In the 1960’s Dorthy began working for McDonald Douglas on the F4 Phantom Airplane installing rivets. Later she became a Doctor’s Assistant for Dr. Mangold. Her long-time career of 15 years followed at Leibe Company where she became an official embroider for the St. Louis Cardinals. After the passing of her husband, Dorthy retired and relocated to Baker County to be near family. She enjoyed playing Bingo and scratch off tickets. Dorthy loved the Beach and also enjoyed watching the cardinals and hummingbirds from her window. Dorthy is predeceased by her parents; husband, J.C. Smith; son, Eddie Lee Smith; daughter-in-law, Mary Smith, sister, Carol Jean Hobbs.
Dorthy is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Dale) Thrift of Macclenny, FL; brother-in-law, Wayne F. Hobbs of Bowling Green, MO; nephew, Michael (Vicki) Hobbs of Bowling Green, MO; grandchildren, Tammy, Robbie and Niki Smith, and Jarrett Dyal; several great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Dorthy’s Life will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor David Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Dorthy will be interred at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vandalia, MO. The arrangements are under the care of V.
