Dorothy L. "Jodie" Ricketts

June 13, 1931 — April 30, 2023

St. Charles, Missouri

Dorothy L. “Jodie” Ricketts, of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the age of 91. Loving wife of the late James A. “Buz” Ricketts; beloved daughter of the late Edna (George) Edwards; devoted mother of Kurt Ricketts and the late Kris Ricketts; cherished grandmother of Lisa (Kirby) Schneider, Aaron (Kristy Frey) Ricketts, and Brenna Davidson; treasured great grandmother of Kayla Ricketts, Riley Schneider, Jack Ricketts, and Luke Schneider; great great grandmother of Emma Negrete and Olivia Negrete; dear sister of Carol (the late Bud) Evans, Judy (the late Brooks) Freegard, Georgeann "Butch" (Dave) Kirkland, Thomas Edwards, James (Pamela) Edwards, Michael Edwards, and the late Richard Edwards.

Jodie was a lifelong educator. She received her BS in Education from Lindenwood, and her PhD in Education from St. Louis University. She was the Director of Special Elementary Programs at Hazelwood School Disctrist for 23 years, and also taught at Lindenwood University as an adjunct professor of Early Childhood Development. Jodie was also a member of various educational associations, including the P.E.O (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and the Lindenwood Alumni Foundation.

As a woman of faith, Jodie was a founding member of First St. Charles United Methodist Church. She was very active in the church and volunteered much of her knowledge with Bible studies for many years.

Jodie loved shopping and fashion, and she was known for her great sense of style. She basically had a black belt in shopping and mastered finding a good sale, always. She never left the store until she had everything she needed or wanted.

With many talents, Jodie especially enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening. She had a sensitive palate and often gave her suggestions to the chef as to how he could make meals better. She took a lot of pride in gardening for her flowers and vegetables, and her yard was always beautiful.

Jodie loved to travel, especially when she retired. She and Buzz traveled to Hawaii, Bahamas, Alaska, and most parts of the world, including Italy, France, Scotland. They traveled with friends as well.

Jodie will be remembered as a loving matriarch to her family, who raised her siblings, children, and grandchildren. She was a mentor and friend to all. Jodie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jodie's name to Lindenwood Alumni Foundation

Baue Funeral Homes is currently following CDC recommendations regarding mask and social distancing policies.
