Oakley, Dorothy A., of O’Fallon, Missouri, died on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the age of 87. Loving wife of the late Carlton J. Oakley; beloved daughter of the late Frank and Julia Sitterly; devoted mother of Julie (Ken) Sullivan and Dennis Oakley; cherished grandmother of Lisa (Andrew) Sullivan Vedder and Scott Sullivan; treasured great-grandmother of Noah and Claire Vedder; Dorothy is preceded in death by her son Gary Oakley. Born in East Dubuque, Illinois and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, Dorothy was employed as a secretary at the Fire Marine Insurance Company until her marriage to Carlton in October 1946. They then moved to Davenport, Iowa where they resided for 35 years. During these years their marriage was blessed by the birth of three children. After raising their family, they relocated to Rogers, Arkansas where they enjoyed retirement together until Carlton’s death in 1994. In 2006, Dorothy moved to O’Fallon, Missouri to be near her family. Throughout her life Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In recent years, she cherished and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the St. Joseph West Hospital ICU unit and staff of The Meadowlands for their care and compassion. Services: The family is being served by The Baue Funeral Home, 311 Wood Street, O'Fallon, MO. A memorial service will be held at the Living Lord Lutheran Church, 500 Cedar Circle Drive, Lake St. Louis, Missouri 63367, on Friday September 24, 2010 at 10:30am.
