Donald R. Mattingly

Donald R. Mattingly, of Weldon Spring, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy "Sue" Mattingly; cherished son of the late Bill and Ann Mattingly; devoted father of Greg (Nancy) Mattingly and Lisa (Mark) Norwine; Grandpa Don/Gramps to Samantha (Tyler) Lockhart, Joe (Olivia) Mattingly, Eric (Breanna) Norwine, Laura (Trevor Woodland) Norwine, and Ben (Ally Gibson) Norwine; treasured great-grandfather of seven great-granddaughters; dear brother of David (Nancy) Mattingly, Denis (Kathy) Mattingly, and Diane Mattingly.

Don was raised in Beach Grove, Indiana. As an altar boy, he would often jump the fence from his home just behind the church to make it in time to serve 6 a.m. mass. In 1957, while attending St. Teresa High School in Decatur, Illinois, he met Sue—the beginning of a relationship that would last more than 67 years. They were married on July 11, 1959. Together, they raised their family in St. Joseph, Missouri, where they also shared in the success of owning and operating their own personnel agency. Don and Sue enjoyed travelling and cherished three special trips to Europe with each other. Don passed away on April Fools’ Day- a date fitting for a man who believed laughter was life’s greatest medicine. He had a natural gift for humor and a remarkable ability to make others smile. Don was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life Mass to honor Don's life and legacy will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the chapel at EverTrue Breeze Park, 600 Breeze Park Drive, Weldon Spring, MO 63304.

Memorials may be made in Don's name to EverTrue Hospice.
