Canning, Donald C., 85, was fortified with sacraments of Holy Mother church and died Friday, March 20, 2015. Loving husband of Marcella Canning(nee Steffes); beloved son of the late George and Silvia Canning, Sr.; devoted father of Fred (Lynn) Canning, Michael (Annette) Canning, Susan (Larry) Ruzicka, and Dwight (Mary) Canning; cherished grandfather of 11; treasured brother-in-law of Nancy Creel (nee Breen); beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews, cherished great-grandfather of 2; dear friend of Trudy Olree. He is preceded in death by his siblings George Canning, Jr. and William Canning.
Raised in a farming community, he was voted Future Farmer of America of his high school class. He graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington MO. Don served his country in the Army from 1951-1953. He earned his engineering degree from Findlay and his business degree from Rockhurst University.
His ardent enjoyment of the outdoors and gardening are part of the legacy he passed down to all who knew him. His service to his country, entrepreneurial success, and volunteer activities (at the Missouri botanical gardens and the St. Charles library) modeled the importance of contributing to society. His ability to see the humor in all situations helped him and his family through the adventures of chronic disease. He never lost his good nature, quick wit, and gentle smile. His faith was quiet yet deep. This he role modeled in an amazing way. He accepted the reality of life, while never dismissing the importance of each moment. We will miss his wisdom, wit and gentle love.

Funeral is Saturday, March 28, at St. Mary of the Angels in Wien, MO.
