David Louis Vadnais, 78, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on January 10 at Mercy Hospital.
David was born on June 16, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to La Roy Vadnais and Doreen Powers. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to St. Charles, Missouri, a place that would become his lifelong home and the community he helped shape.
From 1966 to 1968, David proudly served in the United States Army with the 669th Transport Company, including service during the Vietnam War. His military service reflected a strong sense of duty that remained with him throughout his life.
David enjoyed a long and accomplished career as a research technician with Monsanto and MEMC Electronics, where his intelligence and ingenuity led to multiple patents bearing his name. Alongside his scientific career, David was a passionate entrepreneur and community builder.
Over the years, David owned and operated several local businesses, including an arcade, two laundromats, and later The Pub Drinking Company and Spaghetti House, a bar and restaurant that became a cornerstone of Main Street in St. Charles. Through his bar, David became a central figure in the local music scene, forming lasting friendships with countless musicians and supporting live music with enthusiasm. He was affectionately and jokingly known as the “Mayor of Main Street.”
David shared nearly 40 years of companionship with his beloved partner, Brenda, and together they formed a close and loving family. He was the proud father of Kristopher Vadnais and Jonathan Vadnais, and a devoted grandfather to Jeseney, Mackenzie, Abby, and Kameron, all children of Kristopher. He is also survived by Jennifer, Brenda’s daughter, who was like a daughter to David, and her children Autumn, Hunter, and Rowan. As well as Nathan, Brenda’s son. David is survived by his sister, Christine Vadnais, and was preceded in death by his brothers Patrick Vadnais and Joel Wolter.
David’s pride and joy was his self-proclaimed cigar club, The Upstairs Club, located on Main Street in St. Charles, where he and his motley group of friends gathered to share laughter, cigars, drinks, and stories. It was a reflection of the camaraderie and simple pleasures he valued most.
David will be remembered for his sharp mind, generous spirit, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty. His love of travel and his many adventures. His love of classic cars and his Harley. He lived a blessed life filled with family, friendship, music, and community, leaving a legacy that will be felt throughout St. Charles and beyond. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.
