David Lee Schmerber

October 30, 1942 — May 21, 2024

St. Charles, Missouri

David Lee Schmerber, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Elinda Schmerber; cherished son of the late Theodore and Myrtle Schmerber. Preceded in death by his brothers, James, John, and Robert Schmerber. Devoted father of Manuel (Debbie) Schmerber, Peggy Wunder, and Barbara (Matthew) Cook; loving grandfather of Eliora Schmerber, Jennifer Wunder, Sarah (Brian) Schroeder, Alyssa (Scott) Mogelnicki, Nicole Cook, and Malcom (Morgann) Cook; treasured great-grandfather of 6; loving UNCLE, cousin, and friend to all those who met him.


Dave graduated from Bishop DuBurgh High School where he cultivated a strong Catholic faith. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He served as the secretary and treasurer of the Communication Workers of America Union. Deeply dedicated to his community, Dave was a Jennings City Councilman and served on both the Planning Commission and the North County 911 Commission. He was also a lifetime member of the Jennings Historical Society and of the NRA. 


Dave shared 44 years of marriage with his beloved wife. He was a passionate collector, enjoyed long car rides, and embarked on several road trips to serve his family. At Cedarhurst, he was known for cruising the halls on his electric scooter, making many friends along the way.  


Dave was generous to all those he met. He inspired and encouraged others with his positive spirit. He had a deep love for music, especially country and barbershop, and enjoyed singing along. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and had several eclectic collections. Dave was immensely proud of his family and his country. Additionally, he attended Santa school and became a professional Santa Claus, bringing joy to many. Dave was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 


Memorials may be made in Dave’s honor to the USO of Missouri.
