David Nelvin Gehrin, lovingly known as Dave, passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2026, at the age of 87. Dave was born on September 6, 1938, and throughout his life touched countless people with his kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering faith.
Dave was devoted to his beloved wife, Melva Gehrin, until her passing in 2000. Together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, loyalty, and companionship.
Dave had a quick wit and a wonderfully dry sense of humor that could make anyone laugh at just the right moment. He had a way of delivering one-liners with perfect timing, often leaving those around him smiling long after the conversation ended. Beneath that humor was one of the most generous hearts imaginable. Over the years, Dave quietly gave tens of thousands of dollars to charities and causes close to his heart. If he heard someone was struggling, he would often send a check without hesitation and without ever wanting recognition or anything in return. Helping others simply came naturally to him.
Dave proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1963 after serving two years as a radio operator. He carried a deep sense of patriotism throughout his life.
Dave worked for General Motors for 29 years before retiring in 1992. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for his family and building a life rooted in integrity and faith.
One of Dave’s greatest joys in life was animals. Over the years he cared for many pets, each of them dearly loved, especially his final cat, Little Al. Dave had a tender heart for all creatures, even the ones causing trouble around his homestead. He simply could not bear to watch the sad animal commercials on television, often turning away and saying, “It hurts me too bad to watch.” His compassion for God’s creatures reflected the gentleness that defined his spirit.
Dave also loved staying informed and could almost always be found watching Fox News, ready to give anyone an update on the latest current events happening around the world. He could also quote the current price of gold and silver on just about any given day. He enjoyed conversation, sharing opinions, and keeping those around him informed and entertained.
Most importantly, Dave loved Jesus. His faith was the foundation of his life. He prayed often, trusted deeply in the Lord, and maintained a close personal relationship with God that brought him peace, comfort, and strength throughout his years.
Dave leaves behind a legacy of generosity, laughter, compassion, patriotism, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
