Darrel Gene May

Darrel Gene May, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Marti Louise May; cherished son of the late Mary and Robert Eugene May; devoted father of Tony (Maggie) May, Ryan (Kellie) May, Andy (Melissa) May, Ken (Valerie) Vondersaar, and Jake May; loving grandfather of Sidney, Paige, Ryleigh, Olivia, Clara, Nathan, Lucas, Claire, and Hailey; dear brother of Elaine Stevenson; treasured uncle to a host of nieces and nephews

Darrel was married to the love of his life, Marti, for 41 wonderful years. He proudly and honorably served in the United States Marines, having served at Khe Sanh in Vietnam, and went on to build a respected career in the coal mining industry, working for 41 years as a Senior Director of Operations Services. A hardworking and outgoing man, Darrel was a force of nature who far exceeded his goals in life and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed playing and watching golf, traveling to Las Vegas each year with Marti, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, Rams, and Indianapolis Colts. On the day of his death, Darrel said he had a good life and lived the best life that he could. Darrel was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
