Daniel Joseph Rottmann, of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 58.
Dan was an extraordinary person taken from us far too soon who filled his time with purpose, laughter, and love. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met through his adventurous spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Dan was born and raised in Florissant, Missouri, the second of three sons to Gilbert and Jolene Rottmann. He graduated from Hazelwood Central High and the University of Missouri–Rolla with a degree in civil engineering and went on to build a successful career in construction management.
He loved anything having to do with the outdoors, such as fishing, hunting, camping, kayaking, and skiing. He had a sharp sense of humor and a knack for pulling others into an adventure. Dan enjoyed cooking, smoking, and grilling meats for family and friends, and he always had a project underway, such as fine-tuning his aquarium.
Dan poured his heart into fatherhood, appreciating every moment with Ryan, Jared, and Zach, whether they were out on the water, sharing a laugh, or simply spending time together. He was so proud of the men they had become and thrilled to get to know and love the women they had chosen to share their futures.
Dan was always there for his family, whether supporting his nephews and niece, helping his parents with any task, or sharing his trademark humor and determination.
Dan cherished his time with each of his sons. He recently celebrated Ryan’s wedding and welcomed his first daughter-in-law, often shared quiet mornings fishing with Jared, and proudly cheered for Zach at his high school football and volleyball games. Dan loved passing on his skills, hobbies, advice, and love of life to his sons. To know them is to know Dan.
Dan is survived by his parents, Jolene and Gilbert Rottmann, his sons Ryan (Allison) Rottmann, Jared (Katelyn Jonak) Rottmann, and Zach (Hanna Weber) Rottmann; brothers Bill (Rose) Rottmann and Dave (Kerri) Rottmann; nephews Tyler, Lucas, Nick, and niece Natalie Rottmann; and his girlfriend, Anne Hale. He will be immeasurably missed and never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made here. Honoring Dan will support a memorial bench at Montauk State Park, where you can sit, tell stories about Dan (true, embellished, or otherwise), and then go throw a line in to land a giant fish in his honor. He’d tell you it wouldn’t be as big as the one he’d catch, but he’d appreciate the effort.
