A native of St. Charles, Missouri, Dallas enlisted in the United States Air Force upon graduation from St. Peters High School. He was stationed primarily in Rapid City, South Dakota during his three years of active duty. Following his honorable discharge from military service, he attended the University of Missouri at Columbia for a semester before being hired by Wagner Electric Company in St. Louis as a draftsman. He worked his way up from the drawing board to become a manufacturing tool engineer and subsequently achieved recognition as a Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE). He was employed as a supervisor by ITT Blackburn from 1974 until his retirement in 1991. Upon discovering that retirement had a shortage of things that needed fixing, he opened his own consulting company soon after, consulting for Hydromat, Inc. for about a year before consulting exclusively and almost full-time for Pohlman, Inc. until 2003.

Mr. Barteau enjoyed carpentry and woodworking throughout his life, and in retirement took particular delight in building bug boxes, puppet theaters, skateboarding ramps and swing sets for and with his grandchildren.

Dallas was a devout Roman Catholic, serving as a lector, first at St. Peter’s Church in St. Charles and then at St. Monica’s Church in Creve Coeur for many years. He was also a 75-year member of the Knights of Columbus. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Clarendale of St. Peters, 10 Dubray Dr., St. Peters, Missouri, in the Belvedere Room, on Friday, November 21 at 3 p.m. Visitation to follow the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of St. Louis, c/o Alisa Goessling, PO Box 952393, St. Louis, Missouri, 63195-2393.
