Carl B. Wessel, of Cottleville, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the age of 76. Beloved husband of 50 years to Brenda Wessel; cherished son of the late Carl F. and Alta Wessel; devoted father of Matthew (Amanda) Wessel and Heather Wessel; loving grandfather of Breanne Wessel, Jocelyn Wessel and Natalie Wessel; dear brother-in-law of Douglas (Michelle) Leiding.
Carl honorably served in the United States Army. He was passionate about trains throughout his life. Carl’s professional career was engineering, including maintenance and design work on the second extension of the MetroLink in Illinois. After retirement, he was actively involved in multiple model railroad clubs across the region and was proud to give an annual presentation at the University of Wisconsin for engineering students. Carl also volunteered at the National Transportation Museum, where he worked on restoring historic streetcars. Carl was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Carl's name to the National Transportation Museum.
