Billy Luther Burns, 89, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at 7:15 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.

Born on April 13, 1937, in Seminole County, Oklahoma, Billy lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and genuine kindness toward everyone he met.

Billy moved to Saint Louis MO in 1956 where he met his soon to be wife Gloria at a New Year’s Eve party. They soon married on June 14, 1959. He shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life Gloria, building a lifetime of cherished memories together.

Known to his family and friends as "Billy Jack," he carried that affectionate nickname throughout his life. Later, when he became a grandfather, he proudly answered to his favorite title of all—"Papa."

Billy retired from Boeing in 2005 after a successful career as a mechanical engineer. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his dedication, craftsmanship, and expertise throughout his career.

As a father, Billy believed in teaching by example. He taught his daughter, Paula, how to use power tools and build things, passing along the confidence and skills that helped shape her into the handy woman she is today. His patience, encouragement, and willingness to share his knowledge became one of the many gifts he left to his family.

Billy also treasured the time he spent with his granddaughter, Faith. During her early years, he delighted in playing games and happily joining her in dress-up adventures, creating joyful memories that always brought a smile to her face. To Faith, he wasn't just Grandpa—he was Papa, and the love they shared will forever remain one of her most treasured memories.

Retirement suited Billy well. He became a familiar and beloved presence in his neighborhood, often found sitting at the end of his driveway with a friendly wave and a smile, always ready to chat with neighbors, friends, and anyone passing by. His welcoming spirit, warm conversations, and genuine interest in others made him a treasured friend and neighbor whose presence will be deeply missed.

Billy is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Gloria, his daughter Paula and his beloved granddaughter Faith. His family was the center of his life, and they will forever cherish the love, wisdom, laughter, and countless memories he shared with them.

Billy will be remembered for his gentle heart, unwavering love for his family, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and the simple acts of kindness that touched so many lives. Whether he was solving a problem with his engineering mind, teaching a new skill to his daughter, sharing a laugh with a neighbor, or playing make-believe with his granddaughter, Billy made those around him feel valued and loved. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of compassion, generosity, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Billy's wishes were to be cremated, and his family will honor those wishes with a private remembrance to celebrate his life.
