Bill Yates

Bill Ray Yates, of O Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late JoAnn Yates; cherished son of the late Charles Yates and Sybil Mae Caldwell; devoted father of Sharon (Jeff Creacy Sr.) Yates, William (Cheryl) Yates, Chuck (Ellen) Yates; Karon (the late Derek) Goodrich; loving grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; dear brother to Delores Bufford and Elaine McAllister. Proceeded in death by his grandson William J. Yates and his 9 siblings.

Bill proudly worked in automotive manufacturing at General Motors for many years and was a member of the United Auto Workers for more than 30 years before retiring. He had a passion for old cars and especially enjoyed restoring antique automobiles. Bill loved spending time at the family cabin in Arcadia and enjoyed being outdoors whenever he could. He was happiest working in the garage alongside his buddies and treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill also had a playful side and especially enjoyed Halloween, taking great delight in spooking his children and grandchildren and making them laugh. Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
