Merkel, Betty Jean (nee: Vail), of St. Charles, MO, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the age of 81. Loving wife of Harold A. Merkel; beloved daughter of the late Ellsworth and Elsie Vail; devoted mother of Christine (Kenneth) Goodman, Cliff (Nancy) Merkel, and Steve (Lori) Merkel; cherished grandmother of Jacob Goodman, Jennifer Goodman, Sandy (Cody) Kliethermes, Joshua Goodman, Brandon Merkel, Bailey Merkel, Melissa Merkel, and Jordan Merkel; and also a loving aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many.
