Bert Price

June 19, 1951 — December 19, 2025

O'Fallon, Missouri

Bert Price of O’Fallon, Missouri passed away peacefully in his home on December 19, 2025 at the age of 74 from glioblastoma. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Price of O’Fallon, MO; son, Samuel Price of St. Charles, MO; daughter Julia Price of Kirkwood, MO; brother, Joseph (Sherrie) Price of Pine, CO; brother Michael (Cheri) Price of O’Fallon, MO; lifelong friend David (Nancy) Noatch of Ferguson, MO; and cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Price, and his mother, Bonnie Price (née Potts).

Bert grew up with his two brothers in Cool Valley, MO, graduating from McCluer High School in 1970 where he played the flugelhorn. He loved cars and tinkering and went on to graduate from Bailey Technical School in automotive and diesel technology in 1971. He worked as a mechanic at car dealerships and then on the fleet of trucks at UPS for 24 years as a proud member of the Machinists Union.

If you knew Bert, you are very glad you did. He gave of his time and talents to many people in many ways and almost certainly fixed your car or your lawnmower (or both). His generous spirit and mechanical wizardry kept us all running. He took care of cars as a way of taking care of his people. He could fix anything.

When Bert married Beth in 1983, their family and friends sent them off with a hoods up salute of all the cars in the parking lot that he had worked on. It was all of them. He had a superpower of finding low mileage older cars, a superpower his children benefited from. They learned that the value of a thing is not in its age, but in how well it’s cared for.

After retiring from UPS, Bert grew out his beard and became Santa Claus. He made an annual visit to his brother’s daycare center and always answered yes when random kids out and about asked if he was Santa. He also enjoyed spending time in the garage with his children and his classic cars. Bert and Beth enjoyed taking the '55 Chevy Bel-Air and the '65 Plymouth Fury to car shows together.

His greatest joy came in spending time with his family. When the kids were younger, Bert and Beth would take them to Lake of the Ozarks, boating, fishing, and playing mini golf. In his retirement, he fell in love with cruises and went on 13 cruises with Beth. From Alaska to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal to his last cruise in New England and Canada, he savored the time (and food) together with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bert’s memory to American Brain Tumor Association or Stand Up to Cancer. If your check engine light is on, please consider a donation to your local mechanic.

A celebration of Bert’s life will be held at a later date in 2026. In his honor, check and change your oil regularly. Fill up when you hit a quarter tank. Love your cars. Love your people.
