Barbara Margaret Burg (née Stein), of O'Fallon, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the age of 92, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. A life-long St. Louis area resident, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Marguerite Stein. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Colonel John Richard Burg and a devoted member of St. Barnabus Church.
Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to John (Cathy) Burg, Michael Burg, Lorraine Kiely, and Cindy (Craig) Spengler. Her heart was full when she was with her grandchildren, Branden (Sara) Kiely, Patrick (Jen) Kiely, Andrew Kiely, Brian Kiely, Clare Kiely, Jonathan Spengler, Bradley (Tess) Spengler, Ryan Spengler, and Anna (Andrew) Buller. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, attending their sporting events, dance recitals, barbecues and swim parties. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to Brett and Liam Kiely. Barbara is survived by her dear sister, Mary Beth Peterson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tom Stein and Jim Stein (survived by his wife, Jane).
Beyond her family, Barbara lived a life rich with passion and adventure. She was an avid traveler, exploring the world from Russia to Rio, Paris to the Vatican, and the beautiful coasts of California and Lake Tahoe. She had a passion for staying active, enjoying tennis, swimming, especially biking and roller skating while in her nineties. Her home was a testament to her love of nature, as she meticulously maintained a vibrant garden where something was always in bloom. This passion was passed onto her children who now enjoy sharing it with theirs.
In her later years, Barbara found a cherished friend in Faith Westhoff, whom she met through her church. Their bond was so strong that when Barbara needed a caregiver, Faith selflessly stepped in, providing loving care and companionship until the very end.
Her kindness, spirit, and love of life will be deeply missed.
