Audie Daniel Sissom, Jr. of LaBelle, Missouri formerly of O’Fallon, Missouri passed away on January 30, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois at the age of 98 years and 15 days.
Audie was born on January 15, 1928 in Cardwell, Missouri to Audy Daniel Sissom, Sr. and Elsie Mary (Cross) Sissom.
Audie was the true definition of a family man - someone who turned the grit of his youth into a legacy of adventure for the next generation. Whether he was picking cotton with his siblings or picking out the next family road trip, his devotion to his roots clearly never wavered.
Audie was drafted into the US Army at the end of World War II and served in the Occupation Forces in Japan. After returning home from the Army, Audie was united in marriage to Mary Lou Hall on September 2, 1950 in Piggot, Arkansas. To this union two daughters were born, Teresa Ann and Vicky Jolene. Mary preceded him in death on June 14, 2014.
Audie and Mary farmed in Dunklin County, owned and operated a service station in Kennett, Missouri, and worked for the Kennett Municipal Utilities before being employed at the Fisher Body Auto Plant (later GM) in St. Louis, Missouri in 1964. He always said, “If a guy wants to work there’s a job out there somewhere.” Audie was not one to be idle, he also operated an exterminating business in O’Fallon, Missouri for several years before his retirement from GM. After retirement, he owned and operated a wholesale glove business serving several counties.
He was an active member of the O’Fallon Kiwanis Club, promoting their annual ‘Pancake Breakfast’ fundraiser which sponsored high school students. Audie also developed a program he presented to several Kiwanis clubs and schools about the history of the Bootheel Drainage System and cotton production.
Over the years, Audie and Mary maintained a long-standing membership at the Assembly of God Church. After moving to LaBelle, Missouri, he attended the Baptist church with his daughter, Teresa.
