Arnold Young was born February 1, 1946 in New Madrid, Missouri to Coleman Lee Young and Lena Mamie Estelle (Gray) Young. Arnold was born into a large family with eight brothers and one sister. Arnold spent his early childhood picking cotton and the rest of his life wanting nothing to do with it. Arnold attended Southeast Missouri State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in math and physics. While at SEMO Arnold met and married Marilyn Francis (Weber) Young, who majored in education. Arnold spent two years in the army, five years at Missouri Utilities and the rest of his professional career programming for McDonnell Douglas which was later bought by Boeing. Along the way Arnold and Marilyn had three children: Kelly, Erin and Jason. All five moved to St. Charles County, just outside of New Melle, in 1988. On three and a half acres of lavishly attended lawn, Arnold built a house of his own design and planted a large vegetable garden. Arnold was known for his yard work throughout the community and often offered his knowledge and time to assist others. Arnold fully retired in 2003 and spent the majority of his time traveling with Marilyn and Kelly, visiting his children (and grandchildren), tending his property and working on various projects in his workshop, lovingly referred to as "The Barn." In mid-June, after being hospitalized with severe abdominal pain, Arnold was diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer. He returned to his home and died on July 10th. He was preceded in death by his parents and three of his brothers: C.L., Ray and Jesse. He is survived by his wife and children; his brothers Robert, Charley, Melvin, Riley, and Ernie; and his sister Esther. Services are being held by Baue Funeral Homes at 311 Wood St., O'Fallon MO. Visitation will be held Friday, July 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM; funeral service at 7:00 PM.
