Rev. William “Bill” Schmelder was born August 5, 1933 in Bristol, Connecticut. He was the son of Louis and Lavinia Schmelder. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delle, and children Bill Jr., (Kathy) of Omaha NE, Keith (Lisa) of St. Charles, Craig (Jennifer) of Batavia IL, Kathi Kean (Josh) of St. Charles and 12 grandchildren. Rev. Schmelder is also survived by sisters Marilyn Schmelder and Shirley (Pete) Coughlin, and brothers Howard Schmelder and Larry (Jean) Schmelder, all of Bristol CT. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Voelkel (Jim).
Rev. Schmelder was a graduate of Concordia College, Bronxville NY and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He served as pastor of congregations in St. Charles MO, Ft. Wayne IN, Covina CA and Casa Grande/Coolidge AZ. He taught for 21 years at Concordia Seminary St. Louis, where he served as Registrar and excelled at teaching the art of preaching. He also assisted the ministry of Immanuel, Olivette MO for over 30 years.
He was a dedicated pastor, servant of his Lord Jesus, and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.
Rev. Schmelder entered the church triumphant on June 18, 2018. Soli Deo Gloria!
