William Charles Walter Apenbrink, of St. Charles, MO, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Apenbrink; cherished son of the late William and Estelle Apenbrink; devoted father of Sandi (Mike) Robertson, Nancy (Bob) Pehr, and Cheryl Apenbrink; loving grandfather of Jim (Jennifer) Robertson, Donna (Dan) Massman, Brian (Sally) Robertson, Ryan (Sonja) Pehr, and Brooke (Trey) Chakides; treasured great-grandfather of Drew, Lauren, Braydon, Riley, Kayla, Kalynne, Oliver, Sebastien, Ryan Jr., and Giuliana.
Bill was born August 26, 1925 in St. Louis, MO. He grew up in St. Louis and Sappington, MO. He was a 1943 graduate of Beaumont High School. In January of 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving as a clerk/typist/medic in World War II. After leaving the Army, he worked as a draftsman for Elbring Surveying Co., City of Clayton, and Volz Engineering.
Bill was a life-long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ on Grand in St. Louis serving on consistory, cemetery board, men’s fellowship group, dart ball team and singing in the church choir. He enjoyed bowling, traveling and vacationing at Black River Lodge, a special place for him, where he went each year for 50 years! He was a very special person and will be greatly missed.
Burial was in St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery on St. Cyr Rd. in St. Louis. A memorial service will be held at a later date once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
