Roy Harke, of O'Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the age of 91.
Beloved husband of 62 years to Norma J. Harke (nee Scott); cherished son of the late Lawrence and Lucy Harke; devoted father of Eric (Tracy) Harke, Milly Ransom, Penny Bowman and Ron Harke; loving grandfather of Michael Pirtle, Christopher Harke, Heather (David) Fry, Ashley Bowman, Rachel (Kevin) Bennett, Megan (David) Preston, Devon Ransom, Brittney Ballew and Joey Taylor; treasured great-grandfather of Grace Pirtle, Wyatt Pirtle, Kara Schemkes, Natalie Azar, Ezekiel Harke, David Fry, Ashlyn Fry, Damian Fry, Rayburn Fry, Hailey Arrowood, the late Dakota Arrowood, Austin Bowman, Kaylie Williams, Caitlynn Williams, Kevin Bennett, Cain Bennett, Bryant Preston, Peyton Preston, Alena Preston, Brilynn Ballew and Kinley Wiggains; dear brother of the late Robert (Bernadette) Harke, the late Harriet (the late Edwin “Epp”) Bauer, Ruth (the late Alvin) Bauer, the late Carl (Dorothy) Harke, Earl (Elizabeth) Harke, Kathryn (the late Oliver “Buzzy”) Bowman, and the late Gary (Anne) Harke; Roy is survived by in-laws, Rick and Sharon Crossman; preceded in death by two brother in-laws and three sister in-laws.
Roy was a hardworking farmer and family man. He had a humble spirit and kind personality. Roy was born and raised in Old Monroe, Missouri where he worked on the family farm. In his free time, Roy loved to play baseball. He was a talented athlete, played in the farming league for many years and was even signed with Moline Athletics Inc. in 1948. Roy’s passion of the sport has been passed down many generations, as his great grandchildren still play on the same community field today. Roy also enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoes and later in life enjoyed golfing. Roy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
