Nelrose V. Dachroeden

December 10, 1922 — May 9, 2018

Nelrose Dachroeden (nee Stubbs) passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Prairie Village, Kansas, at the age of 95. She was born in St. Louis, MO on December 10, 1922. She lived in St. John’s MO, attended Presentation Catholic Grade School and graduated from Ritenour High School. She was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Florence Stubbs.

Nelrose was the eldest of six children. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang with a local band as a teenager, and at some of the Downtown hotels under the stage name of “Patty Stubbs”. She joined the Navy early in WWII and was stationed at Lambert Naval Air Station. She continued to use her talent as a singer with the Navy band, Stars and Stripes, and was successful in raising large donations for the War Bond Effort. While at Lambert field she met a handsome sailor named Art. They married at the chapel on the Base on July 16, 1944. While raising their three daughters Nel kept busy with her wonderful sewing skills, yard work, and painting what ever room needed it.

After moving to St. Charles Nel worked at W.T. Grant, and then retirement gave her the opportunity to spend several years in Palm Harbor, Florida. A move to New Melle afforded her the chance to become the oldest registered female horseshoe player in Missouri. Nelrose is survived by her daughters, Marian (Ronald) Schwendemann, Christine (John) Denney, and Patricia (Alex) Lewandowski. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, her brothers, Robert, James, and George, and her two sisters, Lorraine Stubbs, and Dorothea Rosner. She was a grandmother to six and a great-grandmother to nine. She was much-loved by all her nieces and nephews who enjoyed her fun-loving spirit and willingness to join any last-minute trips, destination unimportant.

We were so fortunate to have her in our lives and will miss her immensely. And many thanks to my sisters, Marian and Patricia for all the love and care they provided her in her last years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Nel’s honor to Disabled American Veteran’s or Fischer House of St. Louis.
