Marvin Lee Davis, Sr.

June 22, 1938 — February 13, 2021

Marvin Lee Davis Sr., age 82, a lifelong resident of St. Charles, MO, being baptized at First Baptist Church on November 11, 1961, stepped into eternity on February 13, 2021, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Weatherford) Davis, four children Karen (Chip) Holmes, of Wolsey, SD, Kathy Davis of St. Peters, Marvin Davis, Jr., of St. Charles and Marcia Davis of St. Charles, and his granddaughter Della Rae Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Grace (Maxey) Davis, brothers Randy and Virgil who died in infancy, Henry (Margie), Richard (Ruth), Robert (Paula), sisters Mary (Vince) Goeke, Luella Brookshire, and Barbara (Dean) Enloe. Also surviving are sister Helen Davis, Anthony (Terri), Thomas (Judy), Lester (Pat) and Bill (Dee) and Brother-in-law Richard Brookshire.

Marvin loved to play softball and played for the Church team for many years. He also coached the Church ladies softball team who won the championship many times. He also enjoyed gardening, having a huge garden every year. He grew tomatoes that he gave to the senior adult ladies at Church, also known as his “girlfriends”. They looked forward every year to his tomatoes, there were none better. He also enjoyed deer, turkey and best of all rabbit hunting with his faithful buddy, Jake the Dog. He talked about writing a book about his hunting expeditions with Jake and calling the book “Jake and the Fat Man”. He enjoyed traveling, especially to national parks with Rocky Mountain National Park being among his favorites. He enjoyed listening to the elk in the park bugle in September. But his favorite thing to do was to duo (facetime) with Della. They would have lengthy conversations, with Della doing most of the talking.

Marvin was a deacon at the Church for many years until his health started failing. One of his passions was to let people know about Jesus and to tell how to have a personal relationship with Him.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to First Baptist Church Connect Ministry or the Powell Terrace Food Pantry.
