Mack Ramsay Margrave

May 10, 1946 — June 29, 2020

Mack Ramsay Margrave, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at the age of 79.

Born to Charles and Dorothy Margrave on July 17th, 1940 he was a special gift because he shared the same birthday as his mother. Quietly travelling through life, he joined the United States Navy and studied at its school of music where he was tapped for one of its bands and served throughout the world for four years. Immediately after an honorable discharge he became the drummer for the Dick Drew Trio which began in New York and made its way to Atlanta where it remained as a toast to the town for many years.

His claim to fame came at age 15 when he was featured with the Stan Kenton Big Band which was performing in Muskegon, Michigan at the time, near his hometown of Whitehall. He had also been offered a place with the Count Basie Big Band during that same time. As a phenomenal musician he remained humble and open to learning, which he did throughout his life.

Mack gathered a multitude of friends throughout his 79 years and will be missed. In addition to them are his wife Mary, stepson, Keith (Cindy) Wilson, stepdaughter-in-law, Teresa Wilson, stepdaughter, Wendy Clark, stepson, Greg (Jennifer) Wilson, grandchildren, Rebecca (Brendan) Riley, Eric Wilson, John Wilson II, Sarah Wilson, Bria (Ryan) Moonier, Drew Clark, Aaliyah Clark, Colin Wilson; sister Judith Margrave and nephew Jarl Brey of Kalamazoo and Portage, Michigan, nephew Hal Brey and wife Debra of Portland, Oregon, great niece and nephew Mackenzie and Parker Brey of Portage, nephew Charlie Brey and wife Lisa (children Nina and Willy) from Spring Lake, Michigan and niece Elyse Brey and fiancé Carson Perry of Tyler, Texas. Preceded in death by his stepson, Brian Wilson.
