Louis Matthew Buryn

Louis Matthew Buryn of Lake Saint Louis, MO, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021, at the age of 74. Louis Buryn was the first child of Thaseus Buryn and Elizabeth (Sutton) Buryn. A graduate of CBC High School, Louis went on to get his bachelor’s degree in European History from UMSL in1969. He entered the army and served his country from 1969 to 1971. He was stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He returned to school and in 1973 received his master’s degree in special education from SIU Edwardsville.

Louis Buryn’s career was devoted to several areas of special education. He spent more than 30 years working for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He began as a classroom teacher and then served as principal at various state schools for special needs children with multiple disabilities. His students ranged in age from 5 to 21 years. He retired in 2011.

Louis was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Norman, and his son, Eric. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy; his son, Kevin; his step grandchildren, Dalton and Tori; his siblings, Julia (Christopher) Todd, Leanne (Glenn) Barnhart, and Matthew Buryn; his daughter-in-law Karen Gahafer-Buryn; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Per his request, Louis Buryn will be cremated. Family and friends can join Kathy and Kevin to celebrate his life Wednesday, September 15, from 4-8pm at Mattingly’s Sports Bar and Grill, 3434 Harry S Truman Blvd., St. Charles, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics.
