Lois Hurley

April 5, 1939 — January 31, 2021

Lois Marie Hurley of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She is survived by her children, Thomas Hurley Jr., Maureen Hurley, Shelia (Earl) DiRie, Susan (Thomas) Jaeger, and Amy (Leonard) Kemna; her grandchildren, Jason Jaeger, Brendan DiRie, Courtney Jaeger, Nolan Kemna, Erin DiRie, Gabe Kemna, Mariel Kemna, Katelyn DiRie, and Jude Kemna; her great-granddaughter, Riley O'Shaughnessy; her sister, Linda (Bob) Smith, her sister-in-law, Jean Schuler; the father of her children, Thomas J. Hurley; and she was a beloved sister-in-law, aunt, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart John (Dorothy) Schuler and Helen Schuler; her brother, Stewart "Bud" Schuler; and her companion, Ray Morgan.

Lois was a registered nurse and one of the highlights of her life was taking care of the Nuns at the Sacred Heart Academy in St. Charles. No party would be the same without Lois and her happy, silly, prank-playing personality. Always socializing, Lois was involved in a number of local organizations such as the Red Hat Society, a leader with the Girl Scouts, several bunko clubs, and the Baue Silver & Gold Club, making lasting friendships and memories over the years.

Staying active was important to Lois. She greatly enjoyed walking and biking and spent countless hours on the Katy Trail over the years. Every day when she’d walk, as a devout Catholic, Lois would say the rosary and always placed great importance on attending mass.

She was fond of all forms of travel and adventure – motorcycle rides, cruises, and even going up in hot air balloons. Lois had a deep love and passion for nature and enjoyed the times when she and Ray would spend a pleasant day fishing. There was a special place in her heart for animals, especially the birds she’d feed in her backyard and whose visits Lois always looked forward to. Lois will always be remembered for her one-of-a-kind, beautiful smile that was always on her face. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial contributions in Lois’s name may be made to ITN Gateway St. Charles https://www.itngateway.org/donate; the Alzheimer's Association or to BJC Hospice Foundation.
