Lawrence “Larry” P. Stahlschmidt

Lawrence “Larry” P. Stahlschmidt of St. Charles, MO, passed away on Thursday afternoon on December 10, 2020, at the age of 86.

Larry was born to Robert J. and Marie (Bextermueller) Stahlschmidt on April 14, 1934, as one of fourteen children. Raised on the family farm in West Alton, MO, he learned the value of hard work and the meaning of family.

Larry served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a radio operator. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired as Assistant Lock Master at Alton, IL Lock and Dam 26. In retirement he enjoyed working on home projects, woodworking, fishing, working puzzles and playing golf with family and friends. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Alton, MO.

Beloved husband of Earlene (Stackle) Stahlschmidt for 16 years. Loving father of Christopher Stahlschmidt (Rosemary), Linda Hudspeth (Darrell), Steve Stahlschmidt (Lourie), and Jeff Stahlschmidt (Billie). Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Beloved stepfather to Christina Smith (Steve), Suzanne Gilleran Stackle, and Matt Stackle (Ann). Dearest step-grandfather to 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by five siblings, Marie Needham, Anita Stimac, Janet Penn (Frank), Jerry Stahlschmidt (Mary Lou Wineager) and Frank Stahlschmidt (Sandy).

Larry is preceded in death by Leanne (Orf) Stahlschmidt, his first spouse of 38 years and 8 siblings, Rosemary Mabrey, Geraldine Boschert, Donald Stahlschmidt, Tony Stahlschmidt, Sylvia Preston, Robert Stahlschmidt, Joan Fields and James Stahlschmidt.

A funeral memorial service will be held in the spring, date to be determined, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Hazelwood, MO.

Donations in Larry’s honor can be made to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
