Kofi attended Okuapeman Secondary School in Akropong, Ghana. Subsequently, he attended the University of Hamburg in Germany where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He then made his journey to the Unites States to pursue higher education earning a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and Neurophysiology at Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa) in the early 1980’s. From there, he moved back to Ghana, where he lectured at the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) in Accra, from 1984 – 2002. During this period, he also attended the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Kumasi, Ghana where he obtained his medical degree (M.D.).

Since retiring from UGMS, he was self-employed as a general practice physician establishing the Atsina Charity Medical Clinic, Inc. with the mission of providing free medical care to the poor and destitute of Ghana. He also made significant contributions to the Village of Hope Orphanage (VOH), where he provided free care to the orphans, as well as the surrounding village communities for over two decades.

Kofi had a compassionate spirit. He was an incredibly generous and loving man, devoting many decades of his life to charity work and helping underprivileged populations. In his leisure time, he enjoyed taking long walks with his wife, reading, writing, and cracking jokes to entertain those around him. He was a political buff and an avid soccer fan. Above all, Kofi always put his family first, entertaining his grandchildren and spending time with those he loved.

The full meaning of his name was “The medicine man, Kofi, has come to stay.” Indeed, his legacy will live on through his children and all whom he impacted. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
