Kathleen L. Buse

May 28, 1921 — April 17, 2020

Kathleen (Kak) Leona Buse (nee Schneider), of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away April 17, 2020 at the age of 98.  She was the loving wife of 62 years to the late Robert (Bob) J. Buse.  She was preceded in death by her parents Felix and Magdalena Schneider, and Bob’s parents Urilla and Robert W. Buse.  She was the devoted mother of Cheryl (Terry) Moran, David Buse (Margaret), James Buse (Rita), and the late Wayne Buse; cherished grandmother of Angela (Dominic) Giacalone, Lisa (Chris) Miller, Kathryn (Luke) Taylor, John (Jessica) Buse, Maura (Peter) Mullady, Joseph Buse, Paul Buse, the late Claire Buse; cherished great-grandmother of Joe, Lucy, Henry, Ivory, Livia, Austin, Ryan, McKenna, Madeline and Nora; dear sister of Mary Jean (Marshall) Gillette, the late Aurelia (Rick) and Joe Schaeffer, the late Marvin Schneider, sister-in-law Helen and her late husband James Schneider, and in-laws of the late DeLellis and Arthur Wilke; many cherished nieces and nephews and dear cousins.

Kak had a “We Can Do It” attitude from when she riveted bomber airplanes for the Curtiss-Wright Plant during World War II, to when she learned about and meticulously crocheted afghans for her children.  She loved to create new food dishes.  Her kitchen was always open to friends and family to drop by.  She liked to travel and dance to Big Band music with her husband, Bob. She served as caregiver to multiple generations of relatives who were sick or dying.  She kept an impeccable house with strict guidelines.  She was an accomplished, confident woman.

Kak sewed draperies for the St. Charles Decorating Center, and cooked for the Harden Elementary and St. Charles High cafeterias.  She quilted with the St. Peter Church Happy Hour Quilters.  She could calculate sales figures in her head incredibly fast, so she ran the cash register for her St. Anne Sodality card parties and church garage sale events.  She kept close to her heart St. Peter Catholic Church and made many friends there.  She volunteered at the gift shop of St. Joseph Hospital.

Kak grew up on a dairy farm in O’Fallon, Missouri, and developed a love of gardening with her mother.  From the farm orchards, they baked peach, apple and cherry pies.  One of Kak’s favorite pies was her Thanksgiving Pumpkin Chiffon Pie.  She was independent, organized and smart.  She was spunky, strong.  She had a zest for life.  Most of all, she loved and cherished her family and friends.  She will be sorely missed by all of us who loved her dearly.

The family wishes to thank her caretakers at Lake St. Charles and NHC-Maryland Heights.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Kak’s name to St. Vincent De Paul Society care of St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Charles, Missouri.
