Juanita “Skeet” Taylor

January 23, 1925 — September 4, 2019

Juanita "Skeet" Taylor of St. Charles, MO, passed away at the age of 94 on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Barry Taylor; her parents, Wilbert and Maybelle Roush; and her siblings, Ronald Roush and Mavis Fisher.

She is survived by her sons, Jim (JoAnne) Taylor and Steve (Adam Wright) Taylor; and her sister, Patricia Lundeen and many nieces & nephews & their children & grandchildren.

She was from Monmouth, IL, but born in the Macomb hospital. She married Barry, the brother of her best friend Janet at the U of IL, on 26 Jun 1948. They met when Barry made a surprise visit home from the service one weekend. He found no one at home because the family along with several of Janet’s girlfriends had all gone to the lake. Guessing where they had gone, he headed to the lake. When Janet’s girlfriends saw Barry they all ran to put makeup on except for Skeet (the girls had decided makeup would not be needed for the weekend so Skeet didn’t have any—the others had all brought makeup anyway).

Their honeymoon was a trip to Portland, OR, where they were planning to live. She already had a teaching job waiting there. Four years later Steve was born & they decided to move back to IL so Barry could finish college. Jim was born just before Barry finished. He got a job at Mcdonnell (-Douglas now Boeing) and they moved to St. Charles were Skeet taught PE at St. Charles High School until retiring in 1974.

The family went on summer vacations every year & toured the 48 states, Canada & Mexico seeing sights & visiting friends & relatives. After retiring Skeet & Barry played golf & also toured may parts of the world. They never made it to Africa or Russia or India but went to China, South America, Europe, New Zealand & four times to Australia (twice to visit Steve) & finished the tour of the States with AK & HI.

Juanita’s favorite sport was golf and she taught Barry, Steve & Jim how to play. Some of the Christmas vacations were family golfing in Biloxi, MS. She played golf for over forty-five years, even hitting a hole-in-one at age 70. What she loved most, though, was spending time with her family through sharing meals with them or traveling with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Contributions in Juanita’s name may be made to St. Charles Presbyterian Church
