Joseph Robert Hrezo

Joseph Robert Hrezo, of Saint Peters, MO, formerly of Miller Beach, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the age of 97. Beloved husband of the late Jewel Hrezo; cherished son of the late Andrew and Mary Hrezo; Devoted father of Joi Niedner and Gary Wayne (Janet) Hrezo; loving grandfather of Jackie (Tim) Pundmann and Lindi (Tyler) Schaeffer; treasured great-grandfather of Jace Pundmann and Braxton Schaeffer. Dear brother of Raymond Hrezo(Hobart, Indiana) and of the late Andrew Hrezo, Helen Mikuly, and Ann Meier.




Joseph proudly and honorably served in the United States Marines during World War II. During the war, he was stationed in the South Pacific and fought in the Battle of Iwa Jima. On February 23, 1945 he was on the island of Iwa Jima when his Marine brothers raised the U.S. Flag a top of Mount Suribachi. He was a member of the American Legion. Joseph was a self-taught renaissance man. He enjoyed going to the beach and bicycling. He loved good food, coffee and red wine, new shoes, playing hearts, gardening and taking close up photographs. He was a self- taught man who could fix anything. Overall, Joseph loved spending time with his family. He was very loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
