John W. Finklang

FINKLANG, JOHN WALTER, of St. Louis, passed away, Thursday July 25, 2013.Beloved husband of the late Jane Ellen Finklang (nee Becker); devoted father of John (Debbie) Finklang, Kurt (Lynne) Finklang, Emily Colletti, and Patricia (David) Daley; dear brother to Frank Finklang, the late Tom Finklang, Catherine Bader, and Robert Finklang; dearest grandfather of Stacie, Andrew, Amanda, David, Michelle, Andrea, Joey, Brandee, Scott, and Lindsey; dear great-grandfather of Madison, Mackenzie, Jackson, and Mason; dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend of many.
He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War, worked as a mining engineer for the Anaconda Copper Company in Butte, Montana, the Bureau of Land Management in Billings, Montana, was a U.S. Government Observer with the Falkland Island Dependencies Survey for the International 1960 Geophysical year in Antarctica, and retired from the Defense Mapping Agency as a Geo-Physicist in 1985. After retirement, John volunteered for the Veterans Administration, traveled, worked on genealogy, and enjoyed reading and puzzles. John was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Post #300, St. Louis Corral of Westerners International, Sappington Concord Historical Society, Carondelet Historical Society, NARFE Chapter 112, and Friend of the Shrine of St. Joseph.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to any veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
