Aunt Joann would hang clothes outside during the winter and bring them in when they were frozen into grotesque shapes, then hang the laundry over chairs to get warm. When she was a teenager, I remember her saddle shoes and that she looked like she should be on American bandstand. She was also the 1st to tell me, at age 4, that I had ugly toes! For the 1st time, I peeled potatoes at her house without using a paring knife; I used my fingers. She’d boil potatoes and then the skins had to be pulled off. Mom and she were extremely close. It’s the end of a generation of Lang women.

candle 5Theresa, Mary, and Thro family,

Heart felt condolences on the loss of your dear Mother. I only had the pleasure of meeting your Mom in person at Theresa’s birthday party, but I did have the occasion to talk with her awhile. She was engaging and delightful and talked about family, marriage, and what is important in life. It was a nice opportunity for me. Your Mom and Dad raised a wonderful family, and that speaks deeply about the people they were.

May the pain of your loss soon be overshadowed by the joy of the memories you all created over time.

    My sincere sympathy,
    Sandy Uhlemeyer

candle 4Cecelia, Theresa and the entire Thro Family,
I just saw the announcement of your Mom’s passing, my heart and prayers go out to all of you. She was such a loving woman, always had a smile on her face and so welcoming to all. I can remember back to grade school days and coming over to the house – she always made you feel wanted and welcomed you in to join in activities. She always had her sewing machine open working on something for one of the kids. When she worked at Thro’s Clothing Store – she always greeted you with that beautiful smile and warm welcome. You had a very Special Woman for a Mother. I am sure your memories will stay strong in your hearts and what she taught you will carry on to another generation. If I can do anything for you please don’t hesitate to contact me. All my condolences to all.
