Jeanne Martha Shipman

Jeanne Martha Shipman (78), passed away in St. Peter’s Missouri on April 12, 2020, Easter Sunday following a valiant fight against omentum cancer. Born June 20, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland to Emil and Marie (Eirmann) Dietz. Born the year of the Pearl Harbor attack and passing amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic has book ended a modest, but event-filled life.
Spending her youth in Baltimore, Maryland, Jeanne (little Jean) met Gene (big Gene) William Shipman and they were married on July 26, 1958 at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Jeanne gave birth to three children, sons, Lee Gene, Scott Frederick and daughter Diana Jeannine (Coomer) while in Baltimore before the family relocated to St. Peter’s Missouri in 1967.
Big Gene and Little Jean enjoyed the next 13 years coaching and attending baseball / softball games, as well a spending a good deal of their summer weekends boating up until the sudden death of her husband in late 1980. She remained a widow until her death and counted many as her friends while working for, and later retiring from, the Fort Zumwalt School District.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Lee (Ruth Weedin), Scott (Chris Kuehler), and Diana; Grandchildren Aaron Coomer, Tarha (Ward) Young (Aaron), Cody Coomer, Jamie Lee Shipman, Eastin Jean-Marie Shipman, August “Gus” Mitchell Shipman, Carver Scott Shipman, and Kylie Jean-Michelle Gunning. Finally, she is survived by her beautiful great-grandchildren Joelle and Elliot Young. Survivors also include her sister-in-law Berta Lou Dietz; nephew, Drew Dietz, nieces, Leslie & Dana Dietz and husband Arnie Handeland, grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
Jeanne was proceeded in death by her loving husband, both her parents, her Aunt Anna Dietz Cusak, and her older brother, Commander Donald Lee Dietz.
In lieu of flowers or a memorial contribution, please enjoy a meal with your family once things have returned back to normal.
