Jean Ann Barnes (nee Roth), of O Fallon, MO, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 76. Beloved wife of the late Norman Barnes; first husband Robert Byers; second husband Paul Bartelme; cherished daughter of the late Merlin and Dorothy Roth; devoted mother of Teresa Ann Franklin, the late Laura Ann Bartelme, Linda Ann (Mark) Sakalauski, and Jonathan (Brandy) Bartelme, loving grandmother to Andrew Crum, Elizabeth Rotter, Asher Bartelme, Isaac Bartelme, and Olivia Bartelme; dear sister of Norma Gillham, the late Marvin Roth, the late Robert Roth, and the late Ronald Roth. Jean is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of O’Fallon, she enjoyed her ministry of music at the church. She loved taking pictures and everyone who came in contact with her was drawn in by her contagious smile and awesome laugh. No one ever had to wonder what she was thinking. . . not a shy bone in her body. When Jeannie loved- she loved with her whole heart. Jean was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jeannie made the world a happier place. She was joyful and exuberant. I enjoyed the years we went to church together….she invested in me as a person and made me feel special. Thinking of you kids who are celebrating her life. She is truly a special lady.

candle 1My precious Aunt Jeanie is so dear to me and I love her so much! I spent many days and nights at her house as a kid with her, my Uncle Paul and my wonderful cousins. I can still see her sitting down in the evening after a long day and peeling an apple and eating it which she so many times it still sticks in my memory along with so many other precious memories. I never saw another person suffer so many devastating blows and losses in life that even affected me so profoundly and yet she was always able to retain her joy de vivre, her ability to light up a room, her loud, hearty, wonderful laugh & her sense of humor! When she was around there was sure to be laughter! While she and especially us who loved her grappled with why she had to suffer so much pain and loss while others so little by comparison, we know that as she embraced her dear Savior for the first time on Monday, she then knew the answers and the questions no longer even matter to her! She was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang for the Lord all of her life, even making an album of her singing that has blessed so many! I loved singing with her and had the privilege of singing with her on the Praise Team at the O’Fallon Church of the Nazarene in the early 2000’s. Then as Alzheimer’s clouded her mind, I loved to visit with her and sing the old hymns and gospel songs that she incredibly always retained the ability to do just like she always did! She had a knack for writing little uplifting rhyming poems for people and would send them to me to cheer me up when I was going thru hard times. I can almost hear her laughter ringing out in the atmosphere of heaven as I write this and I’m sure everyone there is laughing with her! I was named after her (Cheryl Jean) and am so proud to carry her name! She truly was one of God’s masterpieces!

candle 1We loved our time at the Nazarene Church and grew to love the entire Roth Family. Jeanie was so talented and had a heavenly voice. She had so much sorrow in her life but if you didn’t know that you wouldn’t know because she always had a big smile. Jeanie was a blessing to many and will be missed.
