Janet Segasture

November 26, 1937 — January 13, 2021

Jeanette (Janet) Ann (Braudis) Segasture of Bridgeton went home to her Father in Heaven on January 13, 2021 after a short battle with recent health issues. “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

Janet was born in St. Louis on November 26, 1937 to Everett and Mildred (Schoen) Braudis, the youngest of eight children.  She was baptized and confirmed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church.  After graduating from Beaumont High School she did a short term at Harris Stowe Teacher’s College, then continued as a working girl until she married Clifton Segasture on July 14, 1964.  Janet  was a homemaker, and when the children were older she then drove a school bus for Francis Howell for 25 years until retiring.  She loved the kids she drove and was thankful she retired before hugging wasn’t allowed anymore.  Janet and Cliff loved to fish and garden together; there were always fish in the freezer and on the table, and bountiful vegetables and flowers in the gardens.  Janet embroidered many quilts, knitted lap blankets for veterans, and was always working on some crafty project or in the yard.  She enjoyed reading on her back porch, watching the birds, and riding her bike on the Katy Trail. Janet was also a servant, volunteering at the kids’ schools and numerous organizations, as well as being a caregiver to Cliff after a stroke left him debilitated.

After Clifton passed away in 2004, just shy of their 40th wedding anniversary, she moved to an independent senior apartment, and her sister moved into the apartment next door.  Janet and Esther, along with companion Harley who also lived there until his passing, did some far away traveling at first, and then with Janet driving went for one or two local rides pretty much every single day until recently. Her family is thankful that they could see her this past year during covid, spend a few weeks as caregivers recently, then visit and talk with her before her passing.  We celebrated her 83rd birthday on Thanksgiving Day; she was surrounded by those who loved her. She will be sorely missed.

Janet is survived by her daughter Cindy (Duane) Craig, son Jon (Kathrine) Segasture, step-daughter Karyn Hessler,  bonus daughter Kimberly (Marc) Gerik; grandchildren Stephen and Benjamin (Amberlin) Dupre, Sean and Matthew Segasture, Scott and Jeff Segasture, and Melanie and Nathan Hessler; great-grandson Ryan Dupre, sister Esther Pfeiffer, sister-in-law Doris Braudis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifton Segasture, her parents Mildred and Everett Braudis, brothers Everett (Catherine), Robert (Audrey), Lester and William, sisters Ruth, and Marion (Robert) Perko, brother-in-law William Pfeiffer, step-son Joseph Segasture, and dear friend Harley Knop.

Memorial contributions may be given to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Bridgeton MO.
Janet will be interred with Clifton at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a private family ceremony.
