She was baptized as an infant and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, where she was also confirmed. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School through 8th grade and then graduated from Perryville High School.

Upon graduation from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL, she accepted a call to Atonement Lutheran School in Metairie, LA where she was the 1st grade teacher and principal. She also served as the church organist for the growing congregation.

Even though we had not seen each other since those long-ago days in Perryville, we did stay in touch faithfully through Christmas cards and those long holiday letters! It was with delight and interest that I read and reread the annual missives.

You always reminded me of Aunt Alice, one of the kindest, dearest people I have known.

Your family is in our prayers.

    With love to you cousin,

candle 4Irma…just the sound of her name brings a smile to my face and peace to my soul! She definitely was one who shone the light of Christ in all she did in life! She just erupted with light and life – in her warm broad smile to her infectious laugh! How many lives did she touch through her teaching? How many young teachers did she influence and mentor? I was fortunate to be one of those… her wisdom, humor and faith will be her legacy in my heart! Love and blessings to you, Tom, Kirt and Sherri! What a lady!

candle 4Tom, Sherri, & Kurt: May the Lord continue to strengthen each of you as you place your memories close to your heart. From the day in 1967 when we became roommates in CA to Sherri’s wedding stop in Oahu, Irma & I could share thoughts like sisters.. I’m so glad my Tom got to meet you in Columbus on his Ensemble Tour. We shared so many wonderful times in Person, letters, & phone calls. Irma shared so much about you Kurt & Sherri. She was proud of you. Irma will always be in my heart, too. Blessings to all of your family, Aloha Irma.

candle 3Irma was truly and loving, Christian person. I had the pleasure of working with Irma at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Columbus, Indiana. She was always happy when she came into the school office, partly because Tom was the principal at that time. Our daughters were baptized at the same time which also meant that Sherri and Lesleigh were in the same grade in school.

My sympathies to Tom, Kirk and Sherri and their families.

I went to school with Irma for 16 years. We made many trips home together from River Forest. She was a gracious lady at all times. May the Lord continue to bless her family.
