Harland Thomas Stroud, of O Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the age of 94. Loving husband of the late Loretta Stroud, and beloved husband of Blanche Stroud; cherished son of the late Vernon and Mable Stroud; devoted father of H. Mike (Linda) Stroud, Nick (Sandy) Stroud, Vickie Kersting, and Terry (Rita) Stroud; step-father of Kathy (Mel) Burkemper, Peggy (Chuck) Bauer, Joseph (Chris) Wooldridge, Edward (Jayne) Wooldridge, Ginny (Jeff) Tiller and Kenny Wooldridge; loving grandfather of seven; treasured great-grandfather of twelve; dear brother of Madelyn Bussinger, and preceded in death by his sister Betty, and brother Dean.
Harland proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II. Harland served as Postmaster of O’Fallon, Missouri for 30 years. During his lifetime he was a member of several organizations in the O’Fallon area, such as O’Fallon Civic Club, Assumption Men’s Sodality, O’Fallon Volunteer Fire Department, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5077, O’Fallon Kiwanis Club; National Association of Postmaster of United States and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He held various offices in some of those organizations, having been Commander of the V.F.W. Post 5077; President of the O’Fallon Volunteer Firemen; first Budget Officer of the O’Fallon Fire Protection District; former City Clerk of O’Fallon and President of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul of Assumption Church.
Harland was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
